Mari McGrath
Profile: Mari McGrath is a master of eclecticism. She graduated from the International Baccalaureate School at Bartow High School in 1999 after four years of hard work focusing in bullshit (as well as art and biology). She continued to hone her BS skills at New College of Florida, where she graduated in 2003 with a BA in Psychology and work in number theory, the psychology of the Alien quadrilology, sculpting giant fingers our of plaster, sewing costumes for friends to wear at blow out parties, cooking with only a microwave and a blow torch, choreographing synchronized dances to pop-songs, giving out free bacon, throwing 15 hour parties, and working out with Paula Abdul and Darrin’s Dance Grooves. After being accepted to many graduate programs for Human Factors research, Mari decided to thwart the system and headed to the Savannah College of Art and Design to study Industrial Design. During her two years in a historic downtown building she discovered the many uses for super glue, how to sculpt foam into recognizable shapes, how far a person can be pushed, the joys of Bondo, and 2000 grit sandpaper, and that not even being in Europe can make you happy in a program that you don’t love. After a few years fighting her personal demons, real estate, and the darkness of a quarter-life crisis, she enrolled at Florida Southern College in hopes of earning her MBA and a shot at a career, in anything. She currently sells medium to high-end furniture, sings operatic and classical works for fun, takes care of tiny dogs, makes finger puppets of her friends, saves broken pottery in hopes of one day having an art project worthy of it, plans her zombie escape route, composts, and writes a blog at quarterlives.com.
